Four minors aged 15 to 17 were examined on Friday 4 September 2026 for attempted murder and complicity in attempted murder, reports ici.fr. The events date back to Monday 24 August 2026, when a 17-year-old youth was seriously injured in Saint-Renan, in Finistère. The four suspects were placed under judicial supervision following their appearance before the investigating judge.
According to a statement from the Brest prosecutor's office, the events began around 23:00 at the town's pétanque ground. The Prosecutor of the Republic Stéphane Kellenberger clarifies that a brawl had broken out following an impromptu football match "between young people at the city-stade in Saint-Renan". "This match had been marked by conflicts and insults between young players. After the match, one group attacked another," he stated.
The victim was found bleeding and seriously injured, particularly in the thorax. Transported to La Cavale Blanche hospital in Brest, he received ten days of total incapacity for work (ITT).
The investigation for "voluntary homicide attempt" was entrusted to the Saint-Renan Brigade and the Gendarmerie Research Brigade of Brest. The prosecutor's office specifies that, besides the use of a knife, "other weapons were mentioned: tear gas, iron bars, airsoft-type weapon".
Following analysis of surveillance footage, several people were arrested and placed in police custody. The four minors were brought before the investigating judge on Friday. "The investigation will continue, concludes the prosecutor's office. In particular towards any remaining protagonist to be arrested and also concerning the people involved, on the grounds of complicity."
