Gunshots rang out in broad daylight, on a busy street. Residents, including a young mother pushing her child in a pram, froze on the pavement, in shock. Several residents of the priority district described their bewilderment and anger at a violence that is now taking place in the hours of bright daylight. "Now shootings at noon," summarised one of them.
The judicial police, forensic identification technicians and soldiers from Operation Sentinelle rapidly deployed to the scene. The perimeter was secured within minutes of the shooting.
This new murder occurs in a context of violence linked to drug trafficking that has struck Nantes since late April. Mayor Johanna Rolland had confirmed the toll following a previous homicide, emphasising the urgency of the situation for local authorities and law enforcement.
