Rachida Dati returns to judiciary ten days before corruption trial
Former Justice Minister Rachida Dati has requested to become a magistrate again, just days before her trial in the Renault-Nissan affair.
Dati appointed to public prosecutor's office before trial in Renault-Nissan affair
Google News LU FR reports that Rachida Dati, former Justice Minister, is to officially return to the judiciary just days before the opening of her correctional court trial in the Renault-Nissan affair.
According to several French media outlets including RTL, nouvelobs.com and franceinfo, Dati has been appointed "first substitute" at the Ministry of Justice. This appointment comes as she faces prosecution for corruption in connection with this affair involving the Franco-Japanese automotive group.
The former Keeper of the Seals, who had left the judiciary to pursue a political career, had submitted a request for reinstatement to the competent authorities. The Superior Council of the Magistracy approved this return, according to information reported by 20 Minutes and La Montagne.
Her correctional court trial is to open in approximately ten days. She is accused notably of having received funds in exchange for services rendered to Carlos Ghosn, the former head of the Renault-Nissan alliance, at the centre of several legal affairs internationally.
The coincidence between the return to the judicial service and the imminence of the trial has raised questions in French legal and political circles, without official reactions having been published at this stage.
