Six years' imprisonment for Rémy Daillet, alleged architect of little Mia's kidnapping

The Paris judicial court sentenced Rémy Daillet to six years' imprisonment and ordered his continued detention, franceinfo.fr reports, with a journalist present at the hearing on Thursday. The court took into account the impairment of discernment highlighted by a psychiatric assessment.

Daillet, presented as the alleged leader of a far-right splinter group with conspiracy-theory tendencies, was suspected of orchestrating the kidnapping of Mia, an eight-year-old girl, in 2021 in the Vosges, and of plotting a coup d'état.

The national counter-terrorism prosecution (Pnat) had requested seven years' imprisonment against him on Tuesday, for association with terrorist criminals and complicity in unlawful detention of a minor. The court ultimately handed down a reduced sentence, taking impairment of discernment into account as a mitigating circumstance.

Lola Montemaggi, Mia's mother, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, with 18 months suspended subject to a treatment requirement. She will not return to detention, as the time already spent in pre-trial detention is taken into account.
