The Ille-et-Vilaine assize court is continuing examination of the Marco Katalay-Kalala case. The defendant, aged 51, must answer for the death of Marie Thakizimana, which occurred on the night of 12 April 2022 in a flat in the Villejean district, north of Rennes.
On Wednesday 1 July 2026, on the third day of hearing, the defendant used the term "abominable" to describe his own conduct. He explained to the jury how he had returned to the victim's home one month before the events, despite a restraining order issued in 2019 following a previous conviction for domestic violence.
According to his account, he had come back to care for his wife, who was suffering from an illness. He recounted having put their two six-year-old children to bed during the fateful evening.
