Saad Lamjarred sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment on appeal at Créteil
The Créteil assizes court has sentenced Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to ten years' imprisonment on appeal for aggravated rape. The initial sentence of six years handed down in 2023 was increased.
Sentence increased on appeal for Saad Lamjarred in the 2016 case
The Créteil assizes court sentenced Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred to ten years' imprisonment following his appeal trial, according to fr.hespress.com, citing a source very close to the artist's family.
The hearings took place from 17 to 25 September before the French court. Lamjarred appeared at liberty, under judicial supervision, in proceedings held in camera. He was transferred into detention in the early hours of Saturday 26 September.
The public prosecutor's office, which had sought eight years' imprisonment, confirmed to AFP that the 41-year-old singer was sentenced with a remand order for aggravated rape due to his intoxicated state at the time of the alleged facts.
This appeal conviction increased the sentence handed down at first instance. In February 2023, the assizes court had found him guilty of rape and aggravated violence against Laura Prioul and sentenced him to six years' imprisonment. The verdict delivered at Créteil now increased this sentence to ten years' imprisonment.
The case dates back to 2016. Several days of hearings were devoted to examination of the charges against the artist before the verdict was delivered.
Furthermore, Saad Lamjarred faces a second legal proceeding in France. In a separate case related to events that occurred in Saint-Tropez in 2018, the Var assizes court sentenced him on 15 May 2026 to five years' imprisonment. The artist has appealed this decision, which is therefore not final.
Two legal cases thus weigh on the singer: one now determined on appeal with a sentence of ten years, the other still pending before an appeal court for the Saint-Tropez facts.
