In the Bellevue district of Saint-Herblain, on the outskirts of Nantes, two adjoining shops have been sealed off administratively from Tuesday 8 July. A decision from the Loire-Atlantique prefecture requires these two outlets to remain inaccessible to the public.
The first establishment affected is a pastry shop and bakery called Le Fournil du Sud. This business, which had resumed operations following a renovation period, must observe a fourteen-day closure until 22 July. Next to it, the tobacco shop Agora Express, located at the foot of a private residential building of twenty-six flats, is subject to a more severe measure: a thirty-day closure scheduled until 8 August.
These sanctions stem from a law that came into force on 13 June 2025, legislation that strengthens the powers of state representatives to combat drug distribution. This regulation now allows prefects to order the closure of commercial premises when they are suspected of serving as cover for activities related to narcotics.
One of the two professionals affected has chosen to appeal the decision. They have filed an appeal with the competent administrative court to have the measure against them annulled.
