Three men, including a 17-year-old teenager, were arrested on Tuesday 18 August in Alençon, in the Orne, suspected of having beaten to death a homeless man during the night of Monday to Tuesday, according to France Info based on information communicated by police to ICI Normandie.

The events took place in a square in the town. Law enforcement officers describe a brawl during which "violent blows" were inflicted on the victim, a man in his sixties, who succumbed to his injuries.

The three suspects — two men in their twenties and a 17-year-old minor — were arrested at six o'clock in the morning, a few hours after the events. According to police, they were "in a state of intoxication" at the time of their arrest. None of the three had a record with police.

On Thursday 20 August, the three individuals in question were presented to the judiciary with a view to their probable indictment, police confirmed.
