Seven of eight people apprehended on Monday at dawn by officers of the drugs squad of Grenoble's SLPJ, supported by the Raid unit, were referred at the end of the week before the investigating magistrate.

These seven defendants, all in their twenties and mostly native to the Villeneuve district, are accused of taking part in illicit drug trafficking operating in the Arlequin shopping gallery, as reported by Le Dauphiné Libéré from 6 July.

Some have known each other since childhood. The charges include torture and barbarous acts committed in the course of this illicit commerce. The investigation was opened under judicial inquiry procedures.

The deployment of the Raid, a specialist unit of the national police, illustrates the level of dangerousness of the suspects and the complexity of the operation. The Villeneuve district in Grenoble is frequently the scene of drug trafficking-related matters.
