Seven young cybercriminals arrested for stealing millions of data records
The Anti-Cybercrime Office announced on Thursday the arrest of seven individuals suspected of stealing tens of millions of pieces of information from more than 1,500 organisations, including the National Assembly and Leroy Merlin.

The Anti-Cybercrime Office (OFAC) announced on Thursday 11 June the arrest of seven individuals who were members of a group specialising in the theft and resale of sensitive information. The group, known as "Dumpsec", is accused of siphoning several tens of millions of pieces of data from more than 1,500 public and private entities.
The targets included major organisations: the Palais-Bourbon, the DIY chain Leroy Merlin, sporting federations and health websites. The intrusions were claimed publicly and the information put up for sale on specialist forums such as BreachForums.
The suspects are minors or young adults, often self-taught. Commissioner Julie Benoit, head of OFAC's cyber division, stated that these are "young French hackers seeking notoriety and believing themselves to be beyond reach". She added that they are not "computer geniuses".
The investigation was launched in November 2025 by OFAC's Rennes office, following a cyber attack against a company based in Rennes. The investigations made it possible to identify the group and proceed with the arrests.
