Seven arrests in the Jessim L. murder investigation
According to lefigaro.fr, seven suspects were arrested at the beginning of the week in Lyon as part of the investigation into the murder of Jessim L., self-proclaimed leader of the Jefe Mafia. The Lyon prosecution confirmed that four of them have been charged with murder in an organised gang context. Three have been remanded in custody, the fourth placed under judicial supervision.
Jessim L., 26, had been abducted during a car chase on the Lyon ring road. A video, circulated online, showed a vehicle being struck and then an occupant jumping from a bridge before being caught and locked in a boot. His charred body was discovered in a commune neighbouring Lyon in March, and a message announcing his death had been sent to the local press.
The victim had drawn attention to himself a few weeks before his murder by using social media to circulate images of "paillassonnages" — fires set to apartment building entrances used as intimidation in drug trafficking circles. This murder occurred during a period marked by a multiplication of murders linked to drug trafficking in Lyon.
The suspects arrested in the États-Unis district reportedly acknowledged limited participation in the facts, of a logistical nature. The prosecution states that investigations are continuing under the authority of the investigating judge. Several other suspects remain at large, some abroad.
