The incident took place during the White Night, a nocturnal cultural event in the capital. Activists from the traditionalist Catholic collective had mobilised to block an artistic performance scheduled inside Saint-Laurent church. The mayor of the district, Alexandra Cordebard, went to the scene and was violently confronted.
According to the elected official, she was faced with approximately thirty people determined to prevent the performance from going ahead. She reported "physical pressure" before being struck. A municipal employee also received blows to the thigh and filed a complaint. Of the six people arrested, two are facing specific charges for assaults against elected representatives.
The Civitas collective, positioned at the far right of the political spectrum, frequently organises protest operations targeting cultural events that it considers offensive to its religious convictions. The 10th arrondissement town hall announced it would file a complaint.
Emmanuel Grégoire, first deputy mayor of Paris, commented on social media, stating that the municipality would never give in to "these reactionary movements" and would remain committed to culture and artistic creation.
This incident occurred within a context of hostilities surrounding the White Night. The artistic director of the event, DJ Barbara Butch, has been subjected to an online harassment campaign since 2024 following her performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games.
