According to bfmtv.com, a 55-year-old Swiss man was arrested at the end of September 2026 near Mulhouse following the discovery of nearly 300,000 child sexual abuse material files on his computing devices. The Mulhouse prosecutor's office announced on Friday that the man was hosting and administering a forum dedicated to the exchange of such content on the darkweb.

The investigation began at the end of September when cybercops detected a profile responsible for the massive downloading of child sexual abuse material files over six months. The National Cyber Unit (UNC), Metz research section, located the suspect and apprehended him on 30 September. The man had no criminal record prior to his arrest.

The administered forum had several hundred users. The suspect had set up a cryptocurrency donation system to profit from his criminal activity, according to Nicolas Heitz, public prosecutor of the Republic of Mulhouse. A judicial investigation was opened for possession, acquisition, distribution and transmission of pornographic images of minors, provision of an unlawful platform in an organised group, and money laundering.

The man in his fifties was placed under examination and, in accordance with the prosecutor's office's submissions, remanded in custody.
