In late June, four soldiers from the departmental flow control squadron conducted an unannounced visit to Serruelles aerodrome. This facility, situated halfway between Bourges and Saint-Amand-Montrond, is part of the Châteauneuf-sur-Cher air union, an association founded over fifty years ago. The operation was ordered by the examining magistrate in Bourges, an unprecedented step for this aerodrome.
This initiative reflects a major organisational development: since autumn 2025, the gendarmes' road units have seen their scope of action expanded. Renamed flow control squadrons, they now carry out missions beyond the strict framework of traffic control. The runway network in the department is now considered a sensitive zone, potentially exploited by drug trafficking networks to introduce illicit substances into the territory.
The administrative manager of the aeroclub expressed surprise at this unexpected approach, indicating that she was discovering this procedure. The authorities thus intend to strengthen the presence of law enforcement on these aeronautical sites, considered vulnerable to criminal activities linked to the drugs trade.
