Committed for trial for murder in Gironde

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday and committed for trial on Sunday for the murder of a 16-year-old teenager, according to a statement from the Bordeaux prosecutor's office. The suspect is a neighbour of the victim.

The teenager's body was discovered on Thursday on the banks of the Garonne at Saint-Louis-de-Montferrand, with a bullet wound to the head. A girl of the same age was on the scene and was visibly in shock. Gendarmes were alerted at around 2 p.m. and discovered the body near the Jourdane slipway, carrying out observations and taking samples.

The autopsy confirmed death by firearm. The public prosecutor of Bordeaux, Renaud Gaudeul, specifies that several firearms were seized from the suspect's home, who has no criminal record. The man contested the charges during police custody but was committed for trial on the charge of voluntary manslaughter and held in custody pending trial. The prosecutor's office did not specify whether a motive for the crime had been established.
