Inside the bag, police officers discovered a substantial quantity of narcotics. The case was referred to the national police, who are now in charge of the investigation.
The mayor of Tarbes, Pascal Claverie, cited the incident as an illustration of the role played by the regular and visible presence of municipal police on the ground, in cooperation with the national police. He also took the opportunity to thank the officers for "their vigilance and their daily commitment in service to the people of Tarbes".
