Failed robbery: Poitiers verdicts
According to BFM TV, two burglars were sentenced on Wednesday 14 October at the Poitiers criminal court for an attempted armed robbery with violence in Vienne. The two men, aged 41 and 31, were tried in immediate appearance proceedings following their arrest earlier in the week.
On 16 September, in Ayron, two masked individuals armed with weapons broke into a house to steal money and jewellery. A 17-year-old teenager was present on the premises, followed a few minutes later by her mother-in-law who confronted the intruders. Before fleeing, one of the burglars fired four airsoft pellets at the adult's arm and chest, injuring her.
Police officers located the two suspects using images from neighbourhood surveillance cameras and apprehended them promptly. Both admitted to the facts at the hearing.
The older man, 41 years old, had a history of reoffending. His criminal record mentions sixteen previous convictions, notably for drug trafficking and violent robbery. Released in June, he was sentenced to six years' imprisonment, of which one year is suspended with probation. His previous suspended sentence was also revoked for a period of eight months.
His 31-year-old accomplice, arrested twice recently for driving under the influence of drugs, received a mixed sentence: 18 months' imprisonment and one year suspended with probation. He was also tried for his related offences during the same hearing.
Under the influence of cocaine during the burglary, the two men are subject to a requirement for drug treatment upon release and a prohibition on contact with the victims and with each other.
