A violent death struck the Toulouse neighbourhood of Borderouge during the night of Friday to Saturday. Around one o'clock in the morning, a group of people were sitting on benches near the pétanque courts on rue de l'Allier, drinking and inhaling nitrous oxide. The evening took a turn for the worse when a car arrived at the scene.

A dispute broke out between one of the vehicle's occupants and a participant at the gathering. The argument quickly escalated into a physical fight. One of those involved then produced a knife and struck his opponent repeatedly, notably in the back. The wounded man attempted to flee by running, dragging behind him a long bloody mark that extended as far as the adjacent car park.

Emergency services, alerted to the scene, attempted to resuscitate the victim for several minutes, without success. His vital prognosis was already critical upon their arrival. Death was confirmed at around four o'clock in the morning. On site, officers established a security perimeter to preserve evidence.

Shortly after the incident, a National Police patrol spotted and arrested a 22-year-old young man who was still in the area. He was taken into police custody. His exact role in the altercation is the subject of investigations. His car was towed away at six o'clock in the morning under police escort.

The reasons that led to this fatal assault remain unclear. Residents mention a possible connection to a shooting that reportedly took place a few hours earlier in Bruguières, a neighbouring municipality. Investigators will need to verify this lead during the interrogations to come.
