Toulouse: police officer hit by fleeing drug dealer, suspect arrested 24 hours later
An anti-crime unit officer was struck by a drug trafficker on a scooter who was attempting to evade a stop in central Toulouse. The officer underwent surgery on his hand.

An anti-crime unit officer was violently struck on the evening of Wednesday, 10 June, in central Toulouse. The incident occurred on Rue de la Madeleine, as police officers attempted to halt a drugs transaction.
At around 19:50, officers spotted an individual on foot obtaining drugs from a supplier equipped with a scooter. When law enforcement intervened, the customer, a 36-year-old man with a criminal record, was subdued without difficulty. The supplier attempted to flee on his vehicle.
To force his way through, the fugitive directly struck one of the police officers. The officer was seriously injured to his right hand and right tibia, in addition to suffering abrasions to his arms, back and buttocks. He was evacuated to the emergency department at Purpan Hospital. His life was not in danger, but his condition required surgical intervention on his hand.
The trafficker, a 31-year-old man with numerous criminal convictions, managed to escape initially. He was however located and apprehended the following day, at around 15:00, in the Gabriel-Péri district, by a right-bank anti-crime unit team. Confronted with the evidence against him, he admitted the facts during his police custody. He was to be presented to the public prosecutor before the end of the week. An attempted murder investigation was opened.
