Patrick Bruel's cancelled tour: 150,000 tickets to be refunded via his production company
Patrick Bruel, under investigation for sexual assault, has cancelled 35 dates. His company 14 Productions will have to refund tickets, with no recourse to insurance.
Bruel forced to shoulder losses of his cancelled tour alone
According to franceinfo - Justice, Patrick Bruel has abandoned his entire French tour, comprising 35 dates scheduled throughout the country. The singer, under investigation in several sexual assault cases, was to begin this series of concerts in early October. More than 150,000 tickets are now subject to refund.
The artist produces his own concerts through his company 14 Productions, which will bear all financial losses. "We're talking about amounts equivalent to 20 million euros, or more," said Nicolas Petit, head of news at Voici, on 20 August.
Insurance will not cover the cancellation
Insurance contracts can intervene in cases of illness or bad weather, or when a prefect cancels a show due to public order concerns. But when an artist chooses to withdraw themselves, insurers are not obliged to intervene. Patrick Bruel will therefore not be able to invoke these guarantees.
Spectators wishing to be refunded are invited to contact directly the organisation from which they purchased their tickets.
"Women's voices are finally being heard"
The announcement of the cancellation prompted reactions from civil parties. "It's a turning point, finally, women's voices are being heard," declared the lawyer for Flavie Flament, the broadcaster who accuses Patrick Bruel of having raped her.
Before this tour, the singer had already withdrawn from his theatre engagements and his participation in several festivals during the summer.
