Cocaine trafficking in Perpignan: two men sentenced to jail

The Perpignan correctional tribunal sentenced two men aged 25 and 30 on Wednesday 27 August for their involvement in cocaine trafficking, according to Google News FR — Crime (fr). The younger received two years in prison; the second, one year.
The two defendants had been arrested on 22 June at Champ de Mars in Perpignan as part of an investigation into a drugs dealing point. Both appeared in detention before the tribunal.
At the police station, the custody of the younger man quickly deteriorated. According to evidence in the case, he allegedly insulted and threatened officers profusely: "I'm going to kill you, slit your throat, outside you're dead!" He then allegedly defecated in front of the police officers before striking them when being removed from his cell. Two officers, aged 22 and 44, filed complaints.
The defendant claimed at the hearing that the police officers had shown him no respect. The prosecutor reminded him that the pathologist had found no injuries on his body. The tribunal also found him guilty of violence, threats, insult and resistance to officers.
The two men, born in Algeria and in irregular status on French territory, were already known to the justice system. The younger had six previous convictions to his name. His 30-year-old accomplice had two on his record and had been released only three days before his arrest. In this case, he was suspected of playing the role of money collector from customers at the dealing point.
The tribunal imposed on both sentences an order to remain in detention as well as a permanent ban from French territory.
