Drug trafficking between Catalonia and Brittany: 60 kg of narcotics and €90,000 seized
A cross-border network was transporting cocaine, hashish and marijuana from Castelldefels to Rennes via parcel delivery companies. Two suspects have been arrested.
Network dismantled between Barcelona and Rennes after a year-long investigation
A drug trafficking network operating between Catalonia and Brittany has been dismantled by French and Spanish national police in collaboration with Europol, according to information reported by lindependant.fr. Two men residing in Castelldefels, a municipality bordering Barcelona, have been arrested at the end of an investigation opened in July 2025 and conducted over nearly a year.
The suspects were transporting illicit goods from Castelldefels to Rennes by making use of parcel delivery companies. The Spanish national police specify that these transport companies were unaware of the nature of the shipments they were conveying between the two countries.
Significant seizures during searches
Searches carried out at the homes of the two accused made it possible to seize:
- 5.54 kg of cocaine
- 43.14 kg of hashish
- 12.42 kg of vacuum-sealed marijuana
- 3,070 packets of cigarettes of various brands
Investigators also seized 90,890 euros in cash, cryptocurrencies, luxury goods and two high-end vehicles. Several documents attesting to property purchases in Spain, France and Morocco were also seized.
Remand in custody for one, conditional freedom for the other
Following their arrest, the two men were presented to a judge and received different outcomes: one was placed in remand in custody, whilst the other was released on conditional liberty with confiscation of his passport.
The two suspects were subject to a European arrest warrant issued by France for drug trafficking, money laundering and participation in a criminal organisation. In Spain, they are also being prosecuted for drug trafficking, smuggling and forgery.
Franco-Spanish judicial cooperation
The investigation mobilised the specialist units Udyco (Unit for the Fight Against Drugs and Organised Crime) and Udef (Unit for the Fight Against Economic and Fiscal Crime) of the provincial judicial police in Barcelona, working in close coordination with their counterparts in Rennes. It was this collaboration, supported by Europol, that made it possible to identify and apprehend the members of the network after several months of investigations, according to Spanish media El Caso, cited by lindependant.fr.
