Limoges magistrates' court found a woman guilty of violence against her former partner. The incident occurred in front of their 16-year-old child, who had greeted her adoptive mother with an airgun.

Limoges magistrates' court delivered its verdict in an unusual domestic violence case. A woman, Claire, was sentenced to two months in prison suspended and ordered to attend a family violence awareness course, along with paying 500 euros in damages to her ex-partner, Virginie.
The facts date back to a day when Virginie arrived at the family home to exercise her visiting rights concerning their daughter, Sacha, aged 16. The teenager, who lives with Claire, her biological mother, had greeted her armed with an airgun, refusing to see her. Disappointed, Virginie had turned back towards her vehicle. It was then that Claire caught up with her on the pavement, under the gaze of their daughter posted at the window.
The attacker had dealt three punches to her former partner's face, followed by two kicks, throwing her to the ground. She had then seized a bin to throw it at her. A motorist who had witnessed the scene intervened to protect Virginie and made sure she was no longer in danger.
Claire and Virginie had been united by marriage and had a daughter whom Claire had carried and whom Virginie had adopted. Gradually, tensions had set in within the couple, leading to a conflictual break-up where Sacha had become, according to Virginie, "Claire's trophy, an object of blackmail". The teenager, caught in a conflict of loyalty, had ended up rejecting her adoptive mother.
The defendant was not present at the hearing. She had claimed to investigators that it was Virginie who had attacked her, contrary to the testimony of the bystander. The victim's solicitor emphasised that Claire had refused the criminal mediation that had been proposed to her. The court upheld the sentence sought by the prosecutor.
