According to Google News LU FR, four bodies were discovered in Gy, Haute-Saône: a 74-year-old woman, a 42-year-old man and two boys aged 6 and 10.
"The leading hypothesis at this stage of the investigation is that the father of the family, in the process of separating, took the lives of the three other people before turning the weapon on himself," said Arnaud Grécourt, prosecutor of the Republic of Vesoul, on Friday 4 September 2026 in a statement transmitted to Ouest-France.
According to the public prosecutor's office, the man reportedly killed his wife's mother as well as his two children. He then reportedly filmed the scene and sent the video to his partner before committing suicide.
The couple was in the process of separating at the time of the incident. The autopsies of the four victims were carried out on Friday to clarify the exact circumstances of the deaths.
Witnesses interviewed near the site of the tragedy by Agence France-Presse reported shock and bewilderment in the commune. The investigation is ongoing.
