Around one in the morning, between Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July, gunshots rang out in the Chauvel sector, located in Abymes, Guadeloupe. A 39-year-old man, seriously wounded, was taken care of by emergency services and then transported to the island's university hospital centre. He did not survive his injuries and died shortly after admission. The second injured person, whose condition was less critical, was treated directly on site; their life was not in danger.
An investigation was opened by Caroline Calbo, magistrate heading the public prosecutor's office in Pointe-à-Pitre, in order to shed full light on this incident.
