On Wednesday 8 July, the anti-crime brigade in Limoges intercepted a driver whose vehicle contained a significant quantity of pyrotechnic material. A subsequent search of the individual's home uncovered 58 firework mortars.
Among the seized material were items classified as F2 and F3, reserved for adult customers but not requiring a pyrotechnician's licence. Three high-power devices were included in the seizure, each capable of firing 380 rounds.
Investigators believe the man had stockpiled the material in preparation for the national holiday in order to sell it illegally. After questioning, he was referred to the Limoges public prosecutor and appeared under a guilty plea procedure. The court imposed 140 hours of community service, failing which he faces a three-month prison sentence.
The pyrotechnic products were rendered harmless by the National Police.
