A court in the Oise département judged three men on Thursday 9 July 2026 who were involved in drug trafficking within Beauvais prison. The 42-year-old prison officer was sentenced to 20 months of effective imprisonment and banned for life from working in the prison service.
The case came to light at the start of the year when a tip-off alerted authorities to suspicious activities within the detention centre. Investigations revealed that the official was introducing the products by concealing them beneath his clothing, against his abdomen.
He maintained links with one of the inmates, a 24-year-old man whom he had already encountered during a previous stay in another facility. The latter, housed in cell 405, managed orders from within the prison. The second accomplice, a 43-year-old man employed in maintenance, took advantage of his movements around the facility to distribute the goods among prisoners.
Wiretaps captured the sound of tape being used inside the prison officer's car, parked in the underground car park. Police also noted suspicious comings and goings in the staff quarters and in an unoccupied room, with no technical maintenance work scheduled. This detail undermined the defence of the defendant charged with repairs.
On 27 May, another delivery was expected. Investigators launched a targeted search operation. They discovered mobile phones, cash and prohibited substances. At the guard's home, a sum of over 3,200 euros, contaminated with traces of drugs, was found.
When questioned, the officer initially admitted the facts and disclosed the names of his associates. In court, he changed his story, acknowledging only the passage of alcoholic beverages and food whilst claiming he was a victim of coercion.
The 43-year-old man denied everything, claiming he had only been involved in maintenance work. The public prosecutor's office nonetheless demonstrated that the evidence was damning.
The young organiser was sentenced to 36 months' imprisonment, and the maintenance worker to 15 months.
