A 14-year-old schoolgirl was found seriously wounded on Wednesday morning in the streets of Fère-en-Tardenois, in the Aisne department. Emergency services, alerted to the scene, could only confirm the death of the young girl, who had suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck, according to the local prosecutor's office.
The victim was on her way to school at the time of the incident. On the evening of Wednesday 6 May, police took a 23-year-old unemployed man into custody, suspected of being the perpetrator of the murder. According to elements of the investigation, the individual could be a former partner of the teenager.
The tragedy has plunged the small commune into fear. Starting the next day, white roses and candles were placed in front of the local primary school by classmates and residents wishing to pay tribute to the victim.
A mother who came to accompany her daughters on Thursday morning testified to the emotion prevailing in the locality. She explained that she wanted to be present with her children, who knew the young girl who had disappeared "very well".
