A young mother was trapped and raped in an apartment in Pantin, a suburb of Paris, after agreeing to help an elderly woman carry her shopping upstairs. The incident dates to mid-June and was confirmed by police union spokesperson Linda Kebbab, according to the newspaper Midi Libre.
The septuagenarian had approached the young woman in the street and asked her to carry her bags up to the seventh floor. Once upstairs, the retired woman's son, aged 50, grabbed the victim and forcibly dragged her inside. He then forced himself upon her without protection.
The perpetrator subsequently held his victim captive. He threatened to cut off her nipples if she attempted to escape, a method he had allegedly already used against his former partner.
The young mother, terrified, eventually managed to escape through quick thinking. She asked her captor for permission to open the window to get some fresh air. In her socks, she then fled by climbing across the balconies until she reached a neighbour two floors below. He immediately alerted the police.
Before the police arrived, the attacker's mother appeared at the neighbour's door and called through the closed door: "Madam, you have forgotten your shoes". This detail, reported by the website La Dépêche, raises questions about the exact role of the elderly woman in this trap.
Both the mother and son were remanded in custody. The man is not unknown to police: he has already been convicted of several violent and sexual offences. Twenty-two years ago, his mother allegedly helped him trap another woman by luring her into a similar ambush.
