A company in Val-d'Oise suffered a particularly violent overnight intrusion. About a dozen men with concealed faces entered the site using an earth-moving machine.
The targeted location housed a company manufacturing high-precision medical equipment. The criminals first used the excavator to blast open the gate. Once inside, they breached a wall with the same machine to gain access to the premises.
Their objective: valuable raw materials stored on the site. The thieves managed to seize a safe containing gold and platinum. The value of the stolen goods came to approximately €100,000.
To prevent any response from law enforcement, the perpetrators set fire to two heavy goods vehicles, creating a barrier of flames. A resident was awakened by explosions. He described gigantic flames and detonations. He attempted to alert the authorities. Police arrived on the scene before contacting firefighters. The fire was not brought under control until around 4 a.m.
Investigators opened a judicial inquiry. Since the incident, the victim has decided not to store precious metals on the premises any longer.
