Val-de-Marne: minor arrested for aiming airgun at police officers
A young man pointed a replica weapon at police officers on Tuesday near a secondary school in Ivry-sur-Seine. He was taken into custody on suspicion of violence against a public authority.
Arrest near a blocked secondary school
According to BFM TV, a minor aimed at police officers on Tuesday 29 September during a day of secondary school mobilisation. The incident occurred near Romain-Rolland secondary school in Ivry-sur-Seine, in Val-de-Marne. The weapon used turned out to be an airgun.
The police prefecture condemned this action. "The Police Prefect condemns the violence of the act targeting those who have been present since early morning to oversee the gatherings and enable them to take place under the best security conditions," it stated.
Custody confirmed by the prosecutor
The Créteil prosecutor's office confirmed to BFM TV that a minor was taken into custody on suspicion of violence against a person holding public authority. His custody continued at the end of Tuesday.
Context of national mobilisation
This Tuesday was part of a new day of secondary school mobilisation over budgetary demands for education. The USL (secondary school union) had called for this movement to converge with that of public sector workers. The Ministry of National Education reported 416 establishments affected by actions or disruptions on 29 September, including 45 total blockades and 46 attempted blockades. Thirty-one injured were reported among students and staff.
