Two people in custody following stabbing near Val-de-Reuil railway station
Two people have been placed in custody as part of an investigation into the assault of a 17-year-old teenager, stabbed on Friday 15 May in Val-de-Reuil, in the Eure department, France Info reports. The Évreux public prosecutor's office announced on Sunday evening the opening of a judicial investigation against them and against unknown persons for "attempted murder". The public prosecutor's office has requested their remand in custody.
The victim was taken to hospital as an emergency after receiving several knife wounds near the town's railway station. According to the Évreux public prosecutor's office, the young man's life is no longer in danger. Doctors at Rouen hospital recorded "total incapacity for work of five days". The medical certificate indicates several wounds liable to have been caused "by a sharp and pointed object".
Course of events
According to the initial details released on Friday by the prosecutor's office, the victim was first approached by two individuals. A group of several other people then arrived by car. "One of the occupants of this car allegedly got out, armed with a knife, to attack the 17-year-old and inflict several blows on him", according to the prosecutor's statement. The attackers fled the scene.
Investigations carried out in the following days made it possible to clarify the scale of the group involved. According to details released on Sunday evening by the same source, the initial findings of the investigation allow "it to be established that apparently the perpetrators of the act numbered approximately half a dozen".
Rivalry between towns as principal line of inquiry
The investigation for "attempted homicide" has been entrusted to Val-de-Reuil police. The prosecutor indicates that the exact motive for the act is not yet established, but that the hypothesis of a rivalry between young people from the towns of Val-de-Reuil and Louviers is being prioritised at this stage of the investigation.
