Varennes-le-Grand: two inmates receive additional sentences for trafficking in prison

The Chalon court tried two individuals held at Varennes-le-Grand detention centre on Monday. Between January and the end of March 2026, they brought illegal substances and mobile phones into the facility.

One of them, Antony Billotet, disputed the characterisation of himself as a dealer. He claimed to have stopped consuming and to have acted under the threat of Mehdi Hammadi, another prisoner presented as his accomplice, who allegedly threatened his family in case of refusal.

On 31 March 2026, facility staff brought this activity to an end. The two defendants had their period of incarceration extended for these offences committed during their detention.
