According to pagina12.com.ar, the verdict in the trial for the murder of former Los Pumas player Federico Martín Aramburú will be read next Friday by the French court hearing the case against far-right activists Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier.
Aramburú was shot three times in the back in March 2022 following an argument at the Le Mabillon bar in Paris. The Argentine rugby player's family requested 27 years in prison for Le Priol and 20 years for Bouvier.
French legal expert Sophie Thonon, a defender of families of the disappeared and architect of the first conviction against Alfredo Astiz, presented the final argument representing the family. Thonon spoke with Radio 750 about the defendants and the ideological background of the crime.
"They belonged to a very violent French group from the 1960s that was a kind of small group with a mentality of supremacy, impunity and self-assurance that invites comparison to the dark forces of the Triple A and the dictatorship in Argentina, I do not make the comparison, but the ideology was the same," the lawyer stated.
In her argument, Thonon maintained that behind the case exists a logic of ideological hatred, comparable to that which operated in cases of French disappeared in Argentina during the military dictatorship.
The lawyer also described the impact of the trial on Cecilia, the player's mother. "The trial itself for Cecilia, due to the lies of the defence, was horrible suffering. A son is killed and the world disappears," Thonon said.
The case shocked the sports world and opened a debate about far-right extremism and political violence in France.
