Arrest in Cergy following alleged rape livestreamed on TikTok
A 31-year-old man was apprehended on Sunday 6 September in a flat in Cergy, in Val-d'Oise, on suspicion of having raped a woman and livestreamed the incident on social media, according to rtl.fr. The victim, aged 36, filed a complaint and received treatment at hospital. An investigation was opened and entrusted to Cergy's judicial police.
According to information reported by Le Parisien, officers from Cergy's specialised ground unit (BST) intervened at around 20:45 on rue de la Veillée. Behind the flat door, the officers heard cries of distress and decided to force entry.
Inside the flat, they discovered a man in a state of intoxication as well as a woman suffering from psychological difficulties. The victim accused the man of rape. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody, according to information from Pontoise's public prosecutor's office.
The alert came from a live video on TikTok, noticed by a user based in Haut-Rhin. This person contacted emergency services after viewing images showing a man appearing to force sexual relations on a woman described as "barely conscious". Police were subsequently informed of the existence of these images.
Officers managed to identify the man appearing in the video and locate his flat in Cergy. This information was passed on to colleagues in Val-d'Oise, who carried out the intervention.
According to Le Figaro, the victim reportedly stated she had met the suspect that same morning at Cergy train station. The man reportedly approached her, before she followed him to his home. She claims to have then been held captive in the flat and raped.
