While he acknowledges pushing the victim, he denies the other violence, despite bruises noted on her legs by a doctor. He also contests the account of accommodation granted out of compassion: "She took me to pay the bills, not out of pity. I was filling her fridge, I was buying food for her dog."
Ten convictions since 2019
Thomas's criminal record shows ten entries since 2019: offences under drug legislation, violence, death threats, road traffic offences. Dependent on cocaine since the age of 14, he attempted to prepare a CAP in cooking without completing the training. Too young to receive RSA, he survives through odd jobs for private individuals, between periods of incarceration.
During the hearing, he learned unexpected news: he would apparently be the father of a one-year-old boy. "Apparently," he said with a half-smile, turning briefly towards his mother and two people close to him present in the courtroom. He also mentioned his placement in foster care during childhood: "That did me a lot of harm." He says he now wishes to be admitted to hospital to break free from his addiction.
"Failure", according to the defence
The prosecutor for the Republic of Foix, Olivier Mouysset, expressed the wish that the defendant would manage to free himself from "his demons of drugs". "We live in two parallel worlds. For him, his day is organised around the search for a dose of drugs. For us, we need to eat, to rest, to sleep," he stated from the bar. His lawyer, Me Parant, summed up the case in one word: "failure" — "failure of justice" in this path of wandering.
The tribunal followed the prosecution's submissions. In addition to the custodial sentence, several supplementary penalties were imposed. Before leaving the courtroom, Thomas smiled at one of his close ones: "I'll come out as muscular as you!"
