Car ploughs into climate march in Clermont-Ferrand: four injured

According to centrepresseaveyron.fr, the climate march was brutally disrupted on Saturday 26 September 2026 in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme). Around 11 o'clock, a vehicle struck participants on rue Boirot, leaving four injured — all with minor injuries.
The prosecution immediately ruled out the terrorist angle. Tests revealed that the driver was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement officers present at the edges of the demonstration had initially intercepted the vehicle, which was brought to a halt while pedestrians cleared the way. The driver did not wait: he reversed, built up speed, then drove straight at the cortège, according to the account from our colleagues at ICI Pays d'Auvergne relayed by centrepresseaveyron.fr.
The car travelled as far as rue Saint-Hérem, knocking down several pedestrians, some of whom were thrown onto the bonnet. Police officers immediately intervened to arrest the driver, who initially refused to leave his vehicle.
The four injured were taken to Clermont-Ferrand university hospital. Among them was an 80-year-old woman, whose condition was described as slightly injured but in a state of shock. No vital prognosis was engaged.
The driver was taken into custody at the end of the arrest.
