The information was confirmed by the Paris prosecutor's office.

Security staff detected the opening of an emergency exit, which allowed them to locate the individual inside the offices. Caught in the act, he displayed a knife "without verbalising any threat", according to the prosecutor's office. According to RMC, it was a kitchen meat knife. The man had gained access to the premises through an emergency door which should have remained locked but was left open.

He was found in possession of several laptop computers and phones stolen from the ministry's offices. He was held in police custody on suspicion of theft with a weapon, drug use and unlawful use of psychotropic substances.
