Google News FR — Crime (fr) reports that a 79-year-old man was violently assaulted on Wednesday 26 August at Place Cauchoise in Rouen by two individuals who snatched his gold necklace from him.

According to investigation findings, one of the attackers sat on the victim's knees, seized him by the neck and slapped him twice. The second took advantage of the confusion to seize the jewel. The victim was seated on a bench when the incident occurred.

After the theft, the two men fled on foot. A witness alerted the police, who apprehended the suspects a few minutes later in the hallway of a building in the city centre. Aged 22 and 17, they were taken into custody. An investigation is underway.

Seine-Maritime police note that similar incidents have been recorded in recent days in Le Havre, Rouen and Dieppe. Facing this series of assaults, law enforcement is urging the public to exercise caution: conceal valuable jewellery in public places and do not resist in case of attack.
