Wittelsheim: 19-year-old mother charged with attempted murder of her newborn
A 19-year-old resident living on rue de Reiningue in Wittelsheim is facing formal charges for attempted murder. The events took place during the night of Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 June, when the woman gave birth in the isolation of her bedroom without anyone else in the house noticing.
Her relatives had indeed noticed her abdomen was swollen. When her family asked questions, she persisted in denying any pregnancy. Early in the morning, she reportedly gave birth silently and then left the house with the infant.
She is said to have crossed over a heavily trafficked road to reach the edge of the Nonnenbruch wood. There, she reportedly laid the child on a blanket thrown on the ground before returning home.
At around 7.40 a.m., a passer-by alerted the authorities after seeing a woman emerge from the forest. The emergency services found the newborn in this area.
