Former secretary of state Yves Jégo has been put under investigation for passive trafficking of influence in connection with commissions received on sales of medical supplies to public authorities during the Covid-19 crisis.

The Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed on Friday 10 July that former secretary of state Yves Jégo had been put under investigation for passive trafficking of influence. This judicial decision dates back to 17 December 2024. The case had been revealed by Mediapart.
The ex-minister, aged 65, held the position of overseas affairs between March 2008 and June 2009 under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, within François Fillon's cabinet. He is accused of having acted as a commercial intermediary for the benefit of his own company during the pandemic. Between 2020 and 2021, he allegedly facilitated the sale of masks and protective equipment to public services, receiving payments in return.
Investigators believe that the former centrist parliamentarian exploited professional contacts accumulated during his political career to secure contracts for the benefit of CJ Trade, particularly with territorial entities.
The court imposed judicial supervision on Yves Jégo with a deposit of 300,000 euros. He can no longer communicate with Ludovic Gaudic, head of CJ Trade, who is also being prosecuted for active trafficking of influence and is subject to judicial supervision with a deposit of 400,000 euros.
The investigation began on 8 November 2023.
Maître Pierre de Combles de Nayves, counsel for the accused, declared to the AFP that his client acknowledged professional relationships but refuted any unlawful character. According to the defence lawyer, the individual in question had acted in good faith, without any fraud.
