Two gendarmes from the Pointe-à-Pitre GIGN unit were seriously wounded by gunfire on Sunday, 11 October in Abymes, Guadeloupe, during a judicial police operation, according to rtl.fr. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed the incident in a message published on X the same day.
According to information from Guadeloupe La 1ère, cited by rtl.fr, one of the gendarmes was hit in the leg and the second in the arm. Initial findings at the scene indicate that a car became lodged in a gendarmerie pickup truck during the operation.
Laurent Nuñez expressed his support for the two wounded military personnel and wished them "a speedy recovery". "Attacking our law enforcement is intolerable", he added in his post.
Four suspects were arrested following this operation. "Operations are continuing", the minister stated, without detailing at this stage the exact circumstances of the intervention carried out in Abymes.
