Two seriously wounded following gunfire during Guadeloupe night
According to rci.fm, several shootings punctuated the night of Saturday 17 to Sunday 18 October in Guadeloupe, amid scenes of looting, vandalism and burning barricades that disrupted the island.
The first incident occurred on Saturday evening in Gosier, along the Saint-Félix beach road. A man was seriously wounded by gunfire. He is reportedly a recognised artist from the Guadeloupe rap scene. His condition is said to be critical.
A few hours later, on Sunday morning, another shooting broke out in Boisripeaux, in Abymes. Another victim was struck by gunfire and treated by emergency services. He is currently being treated at the university hospital in a very serious condition.
These two incidents occurred in a police zone. However, the public prosecutor's office indicates that other shots were also reported in a gendarmerie zone during the same night.
Investigators do not rule out the possibility of a settling of scores, though they have not confirmed this at this stage. The perpetrators of the shots remain at large. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of this violence.
