18-year-old held for 500 euros found wandering in Basse-Terre
According to rci.fm, an 18-year-old man living in Vieux-Habitants was found with his hands bound on the Mamelles road during the night of Tuesday 8 to Wednesday 9 September, following several hours of searches conducted by the gendarmerie.
The young man had left his home on Monday morning (7 September) for his usual walk. During the day, he had still exchanged telephone conversations with his family, before ceasing all contact. From Tuesday late afternoon, his parents received an anonymous call informing them of their son's abduction.
The captor or captors demanded a ransom of 500 euros for his release. The matter appears to originate in a dispute linked to a stolen scooter.
As the caller could not be immediately identified, the gendarmerie opened an investigation for abduction and launched searches in the south of Basse-Terre.
Shortly after midnight, a SAMU team intervening for another reason spotted the victim wandering on the Mamelles road, appearing disoriented and with his hands bound. Taken to hospital, the young man reportedly sustained no serious injuries.
The investigation unit is continuing its investigation in order to identify and apprehend the suspect or suspects.
