Wave of drug-related arrests in six cities in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Fourteen people — thirteen Greeks and one foreign national — were arrested in six different cities in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as part of targeted police operations against drug trafficking. According to kavalanews.gr, the arrests took place from Tuesday 29 September to Sunday 4 October 2026.
The police authorities announced the conduct of coordinated inspections in Orestiada, Alexandroupoli, Rodopi, Xanthi, Drama and Kavala, with the participation of the Nestos Police Department. A total of thirteen separate case files were compiled for violations of the legislation on narcotic substances.
The most serious case: cocaine and two motorcycles in Alexandroupoli
The most serious case was recorded on the evening of Friday, 2 October, in Alexandroupoli. Officers from the Drug Prosecution Department of the Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes Subdivision identified two people at the moment of a cocaine transaction, utilising information about drug trafficking in the area.
In the possession of the first arrested person were found five nylon cocaine packages with a total weight of 4.99 grammes, which he had obtained shortly earlier from the second accused. From the latter, four cocaine packages weighing 4.27 grammes were seized, as well as two motorcycles as means of committing criminal acts, whilst mobile telephones from both were also placed under seizure. A third person was also included in the case file who, according to the authorities, acted as an intermediary for the transaction.
Ten additional cases involving cannabis in Evros, Kavala, Komotini, Xanthi and Drama
In the remaining ten cases, drug prosecution departments and DIAS teams carried out inspections during which small quantities of cannabis were mainly identified. Specifically, three Greek nationals were arrested in areas of Evros, two in Kavala, two in Komotini, one in Xanthi and two in Drama.
Among the seized items were reported small quantities of raw and processed cannabis, four cannabis cigarettes and a grinder.
The case files were submitted to the competent prosecutors, whilst the preliminary investigation was conducted by the Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes Subdivisions of Alexandroupoli and Orestiada, the Prosecution and Investigation of Crimes Departments of Komotini, Xanthi, Kavala and Drama, as well as the Nestos Police Department.
