Operation against drug trafficking in four areas of northeastern Greece

Seventeen Greeks were arrested during targeted police operations in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, according to an announcement carried by tanea.gr. The checks were conducted between 8 and 15 August 2026.

The operations involved police officers from the Directorates of Orestiada, Alexandroupoli, Rhodope and Kavala, as well as the DI.AS. Team of the Komotini Police Department and the Thassos Police Department.

Of the 17 arrested, six were identified in Evros, five in Komotini and six in Kavala and Thassos. Fifteen separate cases were filed against them for violations of legislation concerning narcotic substances.

During the checks, raw cannabis totalling 21.98 grammes was seized, small quantities of cocaine, heroin, processed cannabis and cannabis oil, four cannabis cigarettes and one plastic grinder.

The cases were referred to the competent prosecutors. The preliminary investigation was undertaken by the local services in Orestiada, Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Kavala and Thassos.
