Today the 24-year-old accused of the attack with flammable materials on the home of New Democracy MP in Thessaloniki will be brought before the investigating judge, during which the mother of the MP, Vagia, lost her life. The incident took place on 1 July.
Aphrodite Nestora, who suffered serious injuries to her extremities and face, was hospitalised for fourteen days. She was initially transferred to the Burns Unit of Papanikolaou Hospital and subsequently to the Plastic Surgery Unit. Doctors determined that her health had shown significant improvement, and today she is expected to be discharged.
The young man appearing in court today is the owner of the flat that was used as a hideout by the 29-year-old and the 26-year-old, who have already been remanded in custody. According to reporting by Ertnews, the 24-year-old appears to be cooperating with the authorities. His lawyer is expected to argue that his client has no connection to anarchist circles and that he handed over the keys to the abandoned property to acquaintances without knowing what purpose they would use it for.
The defendant is said to claim that the last time he visited the premises was on 26 June. The other two detainees remain in custody at the Police Headquarters of the city, as a decision on their transfer to prison has not yet been made. During their police statements, they denied the charges and insisted they were innocent.
The 24-year-old faces very serious charges, including participation in a terrorist organisation, wilful homicide, illegal possession of weapons, explosions and arson. He is expected to submit a memorandum to the investigating judge.
