Arrest with Stedon, Xanax and Hypnostedon — 25-year-old faces trial whilst free
The 25-year-old Greek national arrested on Wednesday 2 September 2026 at 20:00 was released with the mildest restrictive condition available after police from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Unit subjected him to a check during a routine patrol, according to dimokratiki.gr.
In his possession was found paper packaging containing raw cannabis of mixed weight approximately 5 grammes. However, the finding that immediately drew the authorities' attention was the number of pharmaceutical preparations: 105 pink "Stedon" tablets, 93 purple "Xanax" tablets and 105 green "Hypnostedon" tablets were seized — 303 narcotic-action pills in total, for which the young man was unable to produce a medical prescription.
The absence of a prescription proved to be a decisive factor in his arrest, as possession of such preparations outside legitimate medical supply falls under narcotics legislation. The prosecutor referred the accused to the investigating magistrate after a case file was opened against him.
On Friday 4 September 2026 the 25-year-old gave his statement before the investigating magistrate. His lawyer, Mr Alexandros Myrissis, requested that pre-trial detention not be imposed, presenting his client's explanations regarding the origin and purpose of the possession of the tablets.
The investigating magistrate and prosecutor jointly decided that the conditions for restricting his liberty were not met. He was imposed with a condition of monthly reporting to the police station of his place of residence until the case is tried — the lightest of the restrictive conditions provided for by law, which is typically applied when the judicial authority considers that the accused does not risk absconding or committing new acts, but nonetheless deems some form of regular supervision necessary.
