Clash at Domokos Detention Facility: five injured following attack with makeshift weapons
A new violent incident broke out on Monday evening at Domokos Detention Facility, according to In.gr. At approximately 20:30, a group of inmates from wing C1 managed to descend to the ground floor and attacked prisoners from another wing.
The clash escalated within seconds. Those involved used makeshift sharp objects and exchanged heavy blows, resulting in a total of five people being injured.
Two foreign inmates, who sustained wounds from a sharp object – possibly a makeshift knife – as well as severe marks from blows to the ribs, were urgently transferred to General Hospital Lamia for hospitalisation. Three other injured persons, including one Greek national, were initially transported to Domokos Health Centre, where they were given first aid. At first instance, further transfer was not deemed necessary.
According to In.gr, the clash is believed to have occurred over control of the wing following the absence of Rizai, who is said to have held a dominant position in the facility until recently.
The Domokos Police Department was immediately informed of the incident and undertook the preliminary investigation. In parallel, correctional authorities are conducting searches in the cells with the aim of locating any other makeshift weapons.
