An improvised explosive device was activated in the early morning hours of Saturday, 4 July at the entrance of an apartment block located on 25th March Street, in the Evangelistria area in Amaliada, Elis.

The device consisted of three butane canisters and a container with flammable liquid. The explosion that followed caused considerable destruction at the building's entrance, whilst damage was also recorded in neighbouring buildings. No injuries to people were caused by the incident.

Residents of the surrounding area were woken by the powerful blast. As they reported to a local news outlet, they initially thought it was a vehicle collision with a building, as traffic accidents frequently occur on the adjacent road. When they went outside, they discovered that the apartment block's entrance was engulfed in flames, creating a scene that resembled a war zone.

Police arrived immediately at the scene of the incident and launched a preliminary investigation. Officers are prioritising two lines of enquiry: on the one hand, whether there are video recordings from closed-circuit cameras that would help identify the perpetrators, and on the other hand, whether this particular attack is connected to previous similar incidents in the area, a fact that would suggest a motive of retaliation.
